Is There A Particular Type Of Car Loan I Should Look For If I Have Bad Credit?

If you have bad credit and you need to secure a loan to purchase a car, there are lots of companies who will be happy to work with you and help you to make the purchase, but there is no particular type of car loan that is specific to your needs.

It is very important to remember that anytime you are paying bills, everything you do is going to be reflected on your credit file. The electric and water bills will not only reflect that they are being paid, they will also note if you are paying late. If you have ever had a bill that remained unpaid because you totally forgot, had a misunderstanding about, never were billed for, or just simply decided not to pay, those bills could show up on your credit file as marks against you. They not only lower your credit score, they will determine what type of loan you will be offered.

If you have a good credit record, you have the ability to be offered or negotiate loans with the lowest possible interest and terms. By the same token, if you have a bad credit history, you can still obtain a loan, but you will be facing the highest terms and interest rates. When you have a bad credit history, companies can basically charge whatever they want and, if you need the loan, you have no choice.

For example, if you are purchasing a car for $20,000.00 and the interest is 20 percent, you are paying an additional $4000.00 for your car. If you have a good credit score and are able to secure a 10 percent rate of interest, you will pay an additional $2000.00 for the car. Certainly, you expect the loan company to make a profit, but in this case, bad credit has cost you an additional $2000.00. Additionally, the company will also collect late fees if you are late on the payment. So is it any wonder that there are companies who will be happy to provide these loans? They are making lots of money for taking a risk on you.

Now just because you made some mistakes in the past, it does not mean that you are stuck with this credit history. Just as everything you did in the past impacted your credit history, everything you do from this point forward will also be noted. It will take a little time and effort on your part, but you can clean and improve your credit report. Start with this car loan, make all of your payments on time and, if possible, make a larger payments than necessary to help you to pay off the loan early. Contact the companies that have reports against you and see what you need to do to settle with them. If there is a misunderstanding, work to get it cleared up. Some companies report to the credit reporting agency every month, so you can easily monitor your credit score and see the progress you are making.
