How do I create a budget and stick to it?
Creating a budget is one of the best things to do for yourself and for your family. This is because you can save yourself a lot of money, and that money can be used to get you out of debt, improve your credit rating, and even help your family go on that holiday that you have always dreamed of.
But how are you going to create that budget?
Well, the first thing that you need to do is gather up all of your monthly expenses. You also need to gather the stubs to your paychecks because you're going to do some math that includes these items.
You need to add up the balances on your statements and how much you are paying each month. This will give you the amount that you owe to your creditors and how much you pay them each month. Don't forget to include your utility bills in this as well. Next, you will add up how much money you make per month. Now you can get a picture of what you're making each month and how much of that you are paying out in bills. You can also get an idea of how much you owe versus how much money you actually make each year.
Now you need to assess what expenses you can eliminate. For example, you may have a gym membership that you're not using. Figure up how much you are spending on that each year. You could possibly purchase exercise equipment and save money annually by doing that. If you have any other memberships that you're not using, simply cancel them.
You also want to work on reducing your utility bill costs. For example, tell everyone to shut off the water when they are not using it or shut off the light when leaving a room. This can reduce water and electricity costs. You can also reduce mobile phone costs by removing features that are not frequently used. Then again, some features are unnecessary anyway, so try eliminating those completely.
As you create your budget, make sure you log down all of your information so that you don't forget your plan. You can do this in a budget planner that you make, you can use a day planner to outline everything, or you can invest in a budget planning software that will remind you of when bills are due, how much you are paying, how much needs to go to your savings, and what your balances are. It is great to have an easy to understand system right in front of you so that your expenses are easier to understand. This also makes sticking to your budget a lot easier.
When sticking to your budget, it will get easier as you go because you'll see the savings. You'll be able to save your money, pay off debt faster, and not have to rely so much on credit. You can have the cash for emergency situations if a situation would happen to come about.
