Can I dispute items on my credit report?
Your credit report is more or less your pass to your financial future. If anything is wrong with that pass, then you are not going to be able to get past the doors of credit. If you do, then it is by the skin of your teeth. That is why you need to dispute any erroneous items that you may find on your credit report. If these items are not correct, you have to get them taken care of as soon as possible so that you can obtain the credit you deserve.
If you find that there is data on an account that has not been reported accurately, you need to contact the creditor and have them fix the issue. This is true for any accounts that have been paid off but not reported, for any credit applications that have not been reported accurately, or for any enquiries that have been reported in error.
There are some details that Veda Advantage, a credit bureau, can update. For example, you may find that your personal details are not correct. If they are not, you can fill out an Update Details form and provide any supporting information to make that correction. You will also fill out an Update Details form if your bankruptcy, writs, summons, and/or judgment information is not correct.
If you dispute information with a creditor and they do not make the changes, but you have proof that the information is incorrect, you can contact Veda Advantage there as well. You can write them and provide the supporting information at Veda Advantage – Investigations, P.O. Box 964, North Sydney, NSW 2059.
Disputing information on your credit report is part of having a healthy credit report. If you could not, then a lot of people who pay their bills would have bad credit reports. So if you didn’t know that you have the freedom to dispute items on your credit report, you now know. If you feel that something is not correct, do something about it. This will make your credit score better, which will make your financial life easier.
